Arrival via airplane:
Frankfurt / Main Airport
is the nearest airport, the infrastructure is very good; transfer times to Mainz are around 30-40 minutes.
Please take a look at the Frankfurt Airport homepage: [www], then use the Airport-Info A-Z to look for "Rail".
Please click on "Getting to and from your terminal", then you will be presented a description of the situation of the terminals, click on the blue-colored words "Terminal 1, " to see where the regional trains leave.
To plan your further travel with the trains, please have a look at [www]
Please enter the following dates:
Start: Frankfurt(M) Flughafen Regionalbf
Destination : Mainz Hbf
and other necessary details. Then press "Search connection", an then "Details for all"
to see the trains that are available. You will most probably find the trains "S8"
(meaning "S-Bahn, line 8") and RE (RegionalExpress). Both stop at Mainz Hauptbahnhof (Mainz Central Station).
Airport "Frankfurt"/Hahn
There is also the airport "Frankfurt/Hahn", which is around 150 km away from Frankfurt, and ~60 km from Mainz. Further Information: [www]
If you want to fly with a low-fares-airline like RYANAIR, then your destination may be Hahn Airport. RYANAIR Destinations: [www]
Bus-Shuttle Hahn Airport <-> Mainz: There is a bus-shuttle to Mainz and back; transit times are around 1 hour and 15 minutes. [www] Klick on "Leistungen" in the upper left menu, then choose under "Select route" "Hahn Airport - Mainz MTS & back ", and you will be presented with a timetable.

and use "Mainz Hbf" as destination.
- By bus (from Mainz Central Station):
You can use the bus lines 6, 6A (evening), 54, 55,58,68 and 6605 from port F and G to the bus stop "Universität".
We advise you to use line 6 from "Hauptbahnhof" to "Universität" (Timetable: [pdf]), because it stops direct in front of the university main entrance (red bus stop on campus map [pdf]).
